For the puritan skier, Alta could be viewed as the first stop on the road to Skiing's Shangri-la (The exclusion of snowboarders surely only goes to enhancing the enjoyment for these types). One of the first mountains pioneered in this powder centric section of America, its powder, steeps and rustic charm have long held an irresistible allure for serious skiers.
Want serious, challenging terrain and outstanding snow quality? You've got it. Want broader large scale offerings like heaving nightlife, varied shopping and fine dining? Not so much. Alta Is a resort devoid of big scale pretence. If that's what you're after, keep driving down the road to Park City you heretic. Alta instils a religious like devotion from its guests, and if you're a skier who consciously avoids all 'extraneous' activities because they detract from their time on the hill, or if you just like skiing steeps covered in powder, then we recommend worshipping at the temple of Alta...
Have you been? How do you rate Alta? What venues do you recommend?
