Fernie is quickly becoming some of Canada’s most desired ski terrain. Known for its abundant annual snowfall of almost 10 meters, the combination of uncrowded slopes, excellent advanced terrain, comprehensive grooming and a relatively relaxed backcountry policy has seen an influx of skiers in recent years. The mountainside village is quickly growing to accommodate this increase in skier days each year, but still lacks the infrastructure of more established resorts.
The village is quant but small with only one Apres Bar, a few restaurants and a dozen or so accommodation options. The town of Fernie is a mere hop, skip and depending on you fitness, possibly also a jump, 5 kilometres down the road. It is a far more substantial and enjoyable hub. Want to experience British Columbia’s famed powder and terrain in a slightly more docile setting than the mongolithic Whistler? Come before the masses descend on Fernie...
