Think its all mounties, lumberjacks and dogsleds? Not exactly. Canada is home to a spattering of world class ski resorts. Its a little like the eldest sibling in the ski resort pecking order of the Americas. Big and brash, it towers over the lower 48 by virtue of its abundant snowfall, geography and climate. It boasts a large number of resorts, and an even larger backcountry.
Want thousands of feet of vertical, the largest mountain in North America and an almost inexhaustible selection of restaurants, shops and nightlife? Then head to Whistler, a resort regularly atop reader polls and a must visit on any skier or snowboarders bucket list. Fancy sampling British Columbia's famed powder in a slightly less busy environment? Shoot across to Fernie where the powder is plentiful, but the crowds a little less viscous.
So, brush up on your ice hockey chat and jump on the next dogsled heading North...
